News Final harvest estimate

Potato and onion harvest still lower than expected

31 January 2020 - Anne Jan Doorn - 14 comments

The final onion yield in the Netherlands is clearly lower than the preliminary harvest estimates showed. The ware potato yield is also lower than expectations. This is apparent from the definitive harvest estimate of Statistics Netherlands.

Uit the numbers Statistics Netherlands shows that the definitive hectare yield of seed onions is 5,3% lower than the preliminary estimate. In the preliminary harvest estimate, a yield of 53,1 tons per hectare was expected, while the final one shows that this is 50,3 tons. As a result, the total yield across the Netherlands is also clearly lower: 1.369.567 tons instead of 1.464.973 tons. A difference of 6,5%.

The situation is more or less identical for consumption potatoes, except that the differences in percentages are slightly smaller. The gross yield per hectare would be 49,3 tons according to the preliminary harvest estimate. However, the final estimate shows that this is 47,9 tonnes. A difference of 2,8%. The total gross yield is therefore 170.586 tons lower and ultimately amounts to 3.716.811 tons. A minus of 4,4%.

Wheat writes records
Also for the grains, the yields have been adjusted slightly downwards. For example, the spring wheat yield has been reduced by almost 10%, with a final yield of 7,1 tons per hectare. While the total winter wheat yield shows a minus of 3,7%. However, the wheat yield per hectare can be called a record. Last year an average of 9,6 tons per hectare of wheat was harvested, 9% more than the year before, and more than a ton above the long-term average.

This shows it again.... Processing is increasing.... Potato harvest in recent years? Correct yes decreases .... Yet they pay the same or less ... Conclusion make sure you reserve some money and tick free! Put results side by side! Free cultivation deserves more!

Grow free

Surprising! Statistics Netherlands is again quite wrong with their provisional forecast for the onions. They can cancel the provisional forecast if it deviates so much!

What a jerk. Once again, after more than half a season of exporting and processing, it suddenly appears that 6% less has been harvested.
Prices have to go up, now it is cost price raking.

You forget that the supermarkets start the new harvest from Spain considerably earlier.

Nice, the cost is already 12 cents for seed onions.

with a yield of 40 tons per ha if you sand them out 35 tons then I think it's right
otherwise show that calculation

Mr Hanse was right at the time.

@gerard would also say that as a buyer
With 40 tons per ha you already need 14ct from land delivery.
