This week the carrot trade was even quieter than previous weeks. Several traders speak of the quietest year they have experienced. We therefore have to wait for new demand. "The positive thing for the market is that fewer boxes have been harvested. As a result, there could still be room for the sale of good large carrots at the end of the season," says Joost Litjens, advisor at Bejo.

Now that the landing period is almost over, there is room for parties from the cold stores. Due to quality problems, significantly fewer carrots come out of the box. Estimates range from 350 to 600 kilos per box, although 350 kilos is a negative outlier. "On average, there is up to 10% to 25% less net carrot in the box," says Litjens.

Clearly lower price
The DCA Carrot Listing remains stable. An average price of €10,5 per 100 kilos is quoted for the B carrot, with a range of €8 to €13 per 100 kilos. The C carrot costs €10 to €14 per 100 kilos. This is more than half lower than last year.
