The carrot market is a bit fickle. Trading is calmer for one party than last week, while the other trading company is busier. It is quiet for the time of year, even though Easter is knocking at the door.
The carrot market is rumbling a bit. There is trade, but the carrot trade is far from booming. Last week the market was as dead as a rock, this was due to the hoarding of the weeks before. This week, trading is better than last week in most areas.
It is normally busy with orders around Easter. This has not yet been the case, even though Easter is just over a week away. Quality remains an important point. Little to no trade has taken place in the C-carrot. This is of course due to the closure of the catering industry where the C-carrot normally goes. The catering industry is closed as a result of the corona measures.
Big differences in price and quality
The large differences in quality of the batches also result in large differences in price. The DCA quotation for good quality carrots therefore amounts to €14 to €22 per kilo for B-carrot. Overall, this is higher than last week. Lower quality carrots cost €8 to €14 per kilo, depending on the condition of the carrots and whether there is a buyer. Despite the meager trade, the DCA quotation for C-carrot this week 14 amounts to €15 to €18 per kilo.
