Growers of beets and grains have to say goodbye to crop protection products with the active ingredient epoxyconazole. The European Union has decided not to renew the authorisation.
Epoxiconazole has been used for nearly 30 years in beet and grain cultivation to combat fungi. The European decision means that 4 fungicides will disappear in the Netherlands, BASF reports.
Beet and grain fungicides
It concerns the grain fungicides Adexar, Ceriax and Osiris that growers are allowed to use until July 31, 2021. The beet fungicide Retengo Plust can be used until October 31, 2021.
Growers who want to use the aforementioned fungicides in 2021 must have purchased these products before 31 October of this year and have them on their farms.
Previously banned in France
In anticipation of the European ban France decided to move to a total ban on epoxiconazole a year ago. The substance is said to have a hormone-disrupting effect and therefore pose a worrying danger, according to the French food agency.
