The stock of onions is lower than the long-term average. That is the conclusion of the United Growers Arable Farming (VTA) after the third stock inventory for the 2019-2020 season.
The VTA members have delivered about 74% of the harvest, slightly more than the long-term average of about 70%.
Lots of onions sold
An average of 54% of the stock of onions has been sold. Just like last season, slightly more than in an average season. Normally 25 to 30% of the available stock is sold around this time. The free, unsold stock is therefore approximately 50% lower than the long-term average.
Drought correction
The increase is in line with the practical picture of sales, which have continued to run well until now, says VTA. 65% of the red onions has been delivered, while 73% of the yellow onions has been delivered. A percentage of 90% delivered onions applies to onion sets.
In absolute tons, the stock of the VTA members is 9% lower than the long-term average, with a correction being made for the previous season. When calculating the long-term average, a correction has been made for the extremely dry 2018/2019 season.
