The carrot market is calm, although the demand is declining somewhat this week. How does this affect the DCA peen listing? And does the market already have carrots from the new harvest?
The market for B-carrot is stable compared to previous weeks. However, the demand for B-carrot has decreased somewhat this week. It is a little quieter in the carrot trade. As it stands now, the current season for the B carrot will continue for at least another month. The C-peen is still not running due to the corona measures. This market will only pick up again when the catering industry is restarted. Until then, there is virtually no market for the C carrot.
New harvest carrot
What the carrot market will do in the coming month(s) depends on the new carrot harvest in Europe. Some new carrots are already being released from Spain and Italy. Deliveries from Spain depend somewhat on the weather conditions on the southern European peninsula. New carrots will soon be released from France.
The question is what the prices of this new carrot will do. When prices reach current prices in the Netherlands, the switch to new carrots is likely to occur sooner. Then the question is of course what this will do to current prices, a typical effect of the upcoming transition period.
DCA Pean Listing
The DCA carrot quotation amounts to a range of €16 to €24 per 100 kilos of B carrot, so unchanged compared to last week. This will probably only change when, as mentioned, a new crop of carrots comes onto the market.
