New name Suiker Unie: Cosun Beet Company

2 July 2020 - Eric de Lijster - 29 comments

Suiker Unie will be called Cosun Beet Company. This new name was unveiled on Thursday afternoon by CEO Paul Mesters at the head office in Dinteloord. According to the Cosun division, the rebranding is part of the new strategy and course of the more than 100-year-old sugar producer.

According to Mesters, the name fits with the changes that the sugar company has undergone in recent years. After the disappearance of the European sugar quota, the Cosun Beet Company operates more and more on the European and world markets. "The new strategy and name respond to changing consumer needs and new market opportunities."

The company generates about 30 to 40% of our turnover abroad, continues Mesters. "We have a factory in Anklam, Germany, where, in addition to sugar, we also produce bioethanol, which we bring to the Netherlands for use in disinfection gels. We are the largest producer of green gas in the Netherlands. And we try to maximize the value of the sugar beet," says Mesters. "Then it's time for an international name."

No waste streams
In addition to producing sugar, Cosun Beet Company wants to profile itself more as a supplier of nutritional solutions. In addition to sugar, the company also obtains food, animal feed, protein from beet leaves, biobased solutions and green energy from, among other things, sugar beet. The company wants to grow in this direction. "At the moment 80 to 90% of our turnover consists of the sale of sugar. In about 30 years that should be 50%," says Mesters.

The presentation of the new name and logo, which is related to the new logo that parent company Cosun presented last winter, was a sober affair due to the consequences of the corona virus. Cosun uses Beet Company to adjust the name and logo on, for example, the factories, trucks and other communications. When asked, Mesters did not want to specify exactly how much money is involved.

Black numbers
Mesters expects to be able to close the current financial year, which runs until 31 December, with a profit for Cosun Beet Company. The corona crisis also leaves its mark on the sugar group, but the CEO calls the drop in demand of about 10% acceptable. Certainly in view of the extremely precarious situation in which sister company Aviko finds itself due to the largely disappearance of the French fries market.

He is concerned, however, at the moment in beet cultivation in 2020. There are major differences in the state of the crop on the plots throughout the country. "Especially very distressing for growers now that they have the bad luck for the third year that they are struggling with drought." Mesters thinks it is too early to make a concrete statement about the size of the beet harvest. "But it is already clear that this is unfortunately not the best harvest we are going to get."

Given the extraordinarily high beet price expectations, it is certainly a good move to spend millions on a different name and logo. CEOs like to go international. Do not consult members. They think too provincial. Steaming up in the speed of the nations. Something that resembles tradition must surely disappear. Now a really original name

In English. Have fun going international. And certainly with such a cliniclowns logo you will conquer the world.

We live in a world of appearances and ostentation,
things like quality (not for our products, those requirements are certainly there!) and expertise have long since ceased to matter.

What do you want when schools and universities spit out people who can't do anything, but the flow area that people receive their paper.

Great that you come up with such a name and logo. Our rabbit has even more marketing sense.

In a time of crisis it is a very stupid idea to invest time, energy and money in this. It is better to save costs and put your energy into sales.

logo and name are the most important of your company if you want to enter the market. and want to sell your product. especially worldwide.

Conclusion: So there are too many people in the office at our coop. who occupy themselves and want to provide a raison d'être. And weak drivers who don't want to suppress this, because we are innovative and happy with all of us, aren't we.

The burial of the name Suikerunie is perhaps exemplary of the decline of the sugar industry. Super innovative, greener than green and, moreover, circular up to and including. It is clear that the grower is left with what is left. Now every grower has received a CBC cap. It was empty. The grower will soon be able to contribute to this as well.
nn 6 July 2020
Didn't look at the logo, will take the cap out of the klico.

In principle, it does not matter which change you report here, so change is bad. Even more conservative than the church.

The shareholders themselves are there, so don't complain. Certainly not with the returns of recent years.

Perhaps it is better to finish your education first student. When you have learned what yield means, you can react again. Agreed to meet? Good luck with your training.

Oh well, calculate what that cap costs per ton of beet delivered.... €5 cap? for example on 1000 tons of beets...
Peter 7 July 2020
It's more like a three-quarter cap. skinny thing.
JD 7 July 2020
All return the cap with some change in it. As a thank you for the attention and contribution for the costs incurred...
William of Oranlea 7 July 2020
Epilogue:

When CEOs with no historical sense take the lead, with visions extending beyond 30 years, that doesn't bode well for the future.
If you currently prefer growth ambitions to crisis management, things will not work out.
The world around us is changing rapidly, so you take a step back.
Anyone who then thinks that by anglicizing your name to ignore the crisis, will be disappointed.
I would like to end on a more positive note.....
Henk 8 July 2020
If they still send a decent cap, don't order 100 caps, get 1000 for it. Worthless cap, clothing collection is good with it.

they have really completely lost their way collecting beet leaves how do you think about it even more driving over that country we need even more intermediate storage and there are even more trucks driving they have already examined the residue have to spray 4 times against fungi etc and that junk you have to then smear on your face what a mind.
William of Oranlea 8 July 2020
P.S.

When the consumer starts to mistake the new logo of CBC for the logo of Roundup ultimate, then the turnips are done.
