The price for carrots will drop even further this week. The fact that the price was still too high in the recent period is evident from the fact that sales to Africa are more difficult than normal. The continent has even sought alternative markets.
It is quiet on the market, especially for this time of year. There is not much product available and this will play a major role, especially in Belgium, France and parts of Germany. It is extremely dry there, so no more kilos seem to be gaining weight. This could have major consequences if exports soon start running at full speed.
Sales are difficult
Sales are still difficult at the moment. Africa has looked for alternative markets and has found them in Morocco and France, mainly because of lower prices. However, in terms of quality, these parties cannot match the Dutch carrot. It is therefore expected (now that prices are falling further) that trade to Africa will pick up in the long term.
The DCA quotation for B-carrot drops this week by €2,50 to an average of €18 per 100 kilos, with a price range of €16 to €20. The quotation for C-peen does not escape the downward trend and falls by €0,50 to an average of €17 per 100 kilos, with a price range of €16 to €18 per 100 kilos. Traders expect the price to drop further next week.
