Harvesting puts carrot trade on pause

23 October 2020 - Kimberly Bakker

It is still very quiet on the carrot market. There is plenty of harvesting, mainly for storage, and that puts the trade on the back burner for a while. The Peen DCA quote is showing a minor correction this week, but traders mainly expect stability in the market in the coming period.

Carrot harvesting is currently in full swing, especially for storage. As a result, the carrot trade has been put on hold for the time being, although this is not a strange sensation during the harvest period. The sentiment in the market is therefore also the same last week: very few transactions and difficult exports. According to traders, the second lockdown is also not helping to recover sales. Many now hope that export demand will recover in the coming period.

Stable price expected
The DCA listing of Peen also remains fairly stable this week. The price range of B-carrot is €10 to €14 per 100 kilos, bringing the average price this week to €12 per 100 kilos. Since the bottom has dropped slightly, the average quote drops by €0,50. The quotation for C-peen is €10,50 per 100 kilos, with a price range of €9 to €12. This is also €0,50 lower than last week, because the top of the price range has fallen by €1.

For the coming period, various traders expect the price to remain stable in the above-mentioned price ranges, mainly because there is sufficient supply available and because the yields are slightly less than in other years. In any case, no significant reduction is expected in the coming weeks.
