Violation of the Plant Protection Act more often

16 November 2020 - Kimberly Bakker - 18 comments

Last year, companies with arable crops and field vegetables more often exceeded the Plant Protection Products and Biocides Act, according to new research by the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). The compliance percentage for the past year was 83%, compared to 2013% in 2015 and 86.

Last year, the NVWA carried out a compliance measurement with the Plant Protection Products and Biocides Act at 183 companies that grow open field vegetables or arable crops. This resulted in a compliance rate of 83%. In short, the rules were broken slightly more often than in 2013 and 2015, when that percentage was still 86%. Last year, extra attention was paid to the use of neonicotinoids. In 2 of the 133 samples a neonicotinoid was found, 1 time imidacloprid was found in sugar beets and 1 time thiamethoxam was found in potatoes.

Unauthorized substances or substances
According to the NVWA research report, substances were found in 37 samples that were not permitted in the cultivation in question. In 3 cases it concerned substances that are prohibited in all crops. In addition, the agency reports that 11% of the companies surveyed have been fined or warned for the incorrect use of these resources on the company. You can think of the use of products that are not permitted for cultivation or the violation of the legal instructions for use.

The NVWA further writes that in 3% of the cases a warning or fine was issued for having in stock substances that are no longer permitted. For example, there were 3 companies that had several expired crop protection products in stock, which together formed a large quantity. At 5%, administrative requirements were not met. In all cases, the spray registration was not in order. In 2 of all the investigated companies, there was a lack of care, because due to insufficient or non-cleaning of spraying equipment, residues ended up in a cultivation that did not belong there.

The whole report is here to watch.

This is not good for the industry. This is just the tip of the iceberg. The fines for economic crimes are so low that it is a cold calculation between the amount of the fine and the benefit of illegal behaviour. In fact, illegal behavior is rewarded.

sometimes the rules are so difficult to read or they still have an old label on them and the drug is no longer allowed for one thing but for another

Rules are constantly being adapted and more and more unworkable. because of this, a so-called 'violation' is quickly made.
Civil servants and green parties see that they are right and frame the sector.
Loss of resources that work well, reworkable limits and piles of administration give a chance for errors.

everything is illegal these days very sad!!!
for the grower there is no fun at all anymore .
working below cost getting a lot of sludge all over you day in and day out .
you'll never do well again we live in a country where we have to put down a top production but are not allowed to drive through the village after 5 o'clock on Friday afternoon everyone has their say ready, the farmer is always the piss pole. if you remove a good remedy reglone/brommotril/chlorine ipc and the 500 others.... and there is no 1 good alternative what a stupid/short-sighted world
look at the beet seed coating, we farm 40 years back but it is 10 times more harmful to nature is this the way????
let farmer sow his old seed illegally, and better for the flora and fauna.
what do we want to fatten the boy of the NVWA or support the farmers in these very difficult and uncertain times.
Tip Treat your farmers a little better because in the future you will have land with a lot of rules but no more farmers in the long run explode the bomb (unworkable)

A mistake is easily made, an old label, a rounding error in the dosage or, for example, an application too much and you are already in violation. It's too much and too complicated a rule.
Gijs 27 November 2020
Farmers are allowed to make fewer mistakes than blow jaws, such as Baudet, Vogelaar et al.

Serious people, who are also fond of farmers, such as Carola Schouten, should not do anything wrong.
Roy 28 November 2020
are you well yo? Carola Schouten has absolutely nothing to do with farmers!

Just a little more muddling through and then elections. The next minister could hardly be worse, but the rest of the club remains largely the same.

Then you are not an arable farmer, Braks did not do much for that, yes, saddled us with a manure problem in which we were still a part.

name 1 good minus of agriculture that was good for arable farming
Gijsbert 30 November 2020
A good minister is good for farmers, citizens (society) and the environment. Then Carola Schouten is the best.

If there is no balance between the farmer, citizens (society) and the environment, the sector will collapse, as with Brinkman, but also with Braks (CDA et al.).

Some of the farmers think like the millennials: me and the rest can suffocate. The boomerang is the result.

So much complaining! Start a Farmer's Party, there are plenty of slain men walking around.
