Last week several traders announced this more peace is expected on the carrot market. This is because the most important destination in Africa: Senegal, is closing its borders. The last opportunity to supply has now passed and this means that a large sales market has disappeared. It leads to it being very tame in the market. There is still little trading going on, although the mood is slightly more positive than a few weeks ago.

This slightly more positive mood is partly because the first Eastern Blockers are cautiously entering the Dutch market. The hope is that the loss from overseas destinations, such as Senegal, can be compensated for by more trade within Europe. The Belgians are also still active on the Dutch market.

Small pluses in prices
As a result of a better mood, the DCA rating for both B-peen and C-peen increases slightly. At C-peen the average price this week is €13,50 per 100 kilos, with a price range of €12 to €15 per 100 kilos. An increase of €0,50 compared to last week. The average price of B-carrot also increases by €0,50, reaching €12,50 per 100 kilos. The price range is €11 to €14.

However, many traders report that there is quite a bit of 'junk' on the market. Carrots of (very) poor quality are currently selling for €8 to €10 per 100 kilos. On the other hand, the superior lots are sometimes sold for €15 per 100 kilos.
