No exemption for Cruiser in beets

4 December 2020 - Kimberly Bakker - 12 comments

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has informed Cosun Beet Company that there will be no exemption for Cruiser SB in sugar beet. According to the service, an exemption does not meet the agricultural criteria that have been drawn up for this purpose.

Cosun had requested a transition exemption for the use of Cruiser in pill seed, emphasizing that the dosage involved a lower dose than before. In this way, the organization hoped to better overcome the problems in beet cultivation with soil insects and the yellowing virus. The NVWA has now announced that an exemption from Cruiser does not meet the agricultural criteria and is therefore not possible.

Disappointed with decision
Of course, Cosun is disappointed. All the more so because the NVWA writes that the yellowing virus cannot be controlled well with the current crop protection products. "That should be a reason to shy away from an exemption," says Cosun. On the other hand, the NVWA states that it does not expect that sufficient alternative control options will be available during the transition period (of 3 years). "We do not share that opinion," said Cosun.

That is why Cosun continues to plead for extra money for research into alternative solutions. In addition, Cosun has also applied for an exemption for Batavia and Closer. "These are crucial in the control of green aphids, especially now that there is no exemption for the use of Cruiser in pill seed."

the other countries think differently about this
can't cosun get the seed in those other countries, so it's allowed there

agriculture can no longer count on any support in this country, on the contrary, every reason is used by the government and the official services to discourage the farmers. In this file, the NVWA makes a big deal, even completely unbelievable with the argumentation.

You have to ask yourself what an exemption would have resulted in. If, as in other countries, we are not allowed to grow flowering crops on the plots for 2 or 3 years when neonicotinoids are used, it will not get us anywhere. Teppeki's admission must remain, if we then have to work full-field, that is the best solution.

How reliable is CLM's research and has Cosun's money not already been wasted beforehand?

Growers and cooperatives are simply screwed over by the policy makers. First the warranty price killed by the Coca-Cola lobby, now a well-functioning seed coating system killed by left-wing officials.

If every farmer who would like to have the neonics back sends an email to cosun expressing his dissatisfaction and ordering only 50% of his seed quantity. I'd like to see what's going to happen.

that goes for everything. that's why it would be so good to just do nothing for a week. no nature, beets onions etc. you have to see who has the power

Bad thing for the environment. The WWTPs will find the replacement products to a large extent in the water. Good luck with it.

Farmers no longer have power, the mountain of debt has become too great for that.
Switching from export to import is probably a year of hard work for the retailers, after that nothing stands in the way of politics to let the farmers lose their minds for good.
