BO Akkerbouw aims for another 10 years of research

23 December 2020 - Niels van der Boom - 2 comments

The BO Akkerbouw sector organization has submitted an application to the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality to extend its research program for the arable farming sector by 10 years. Everyone can now respond to this online. From 1 January, research wishes can be submitted. The hectare rates will increase slightly next year.

BO Akkerbouw focuses their research on the pillars of soil management, crop protection and precision agriculture. Since 2016, the sector has taken matters into its own hands, following the termination of the Product Board for Arable Farming. Last October, the BO already submitted an application for a binding declaration to the ministry. That application has been opened. Anyone can respond via an internet consultation.

Make wishes known
In January, the organization will start a call for new research wishes. Just like 2 years ago, arable farmers can create their own ideas suggest† "Agricultural farmers themselves direct new research," says director André Hoogendijk. "We are working together with the ministry for legal anchoring."

The current program has a duration of 5 years. That period will be doubled: from 2021 to 2030. This is in line with the Plant Health Action Plan and the Arable Farming Climate Agenda. The research focuses on potatoes, sugar beets and grains.

Higher contribution for seed potatoes
An inflation adjustment compared to the previous period has been applied to the annual contribution. The correction is mainly due to seed potato growers, because this crop has a higher financial yield compared to ware potatoes and other crops. The hectare contribution for grains, consumption and starch potatoes and sugar beet will increase by €0,10 or €0,20 per hectare. The price of seed potatoes goes from €13,20 to €16,00 per hectare.

Lower costs that's what I want to hear and not the umpteenth increase in expenses that I can't pass on or get enough return from.

Completely agree it looks like Ad Melkert organizations/jobs.

It is about time, in my opinion, that all organizations that are related to agriculture are examined once "What do they cost and what do they add"

What I understand there is already a whole discussion about Planet Proof which added value it has. One thing is clearly the grower pays and a number of organizations benefit from it and the crumbs that fall off the table are for the grower.

The Skylark was also his example a lot of bla bla, but has also already passed away.
