When asked about his favorite tractor jobs, Harry Bakker doesn't have to think twice. "Ploughing and spring tillage", says the arable farmer in Zeewolde resolutely. "With ploughing you round off the season and you lay the foundation for next year. I think that is a special moment. But I also like to prepare for sowing in the spring. With the headhunter in the front and the quick harrow at the back, things are progressing well. I love that."
The MF tractors that Bakker uses to complete the work make an important contribution to his job satisfaction. "That's right, says Bakker, I always enjoy getting on the tractor. The cab is a nice and comfortable place to work with good front axle suspension and a lot of luxury as standard. At MF they have done that better than many other brands. And the gear changes are very smooth. I really enjoy that." The Flevoland arable farmer can also appreciate the ease of use of his MFs. "The tractors have many useful functions, for example the automatic engagement of the differential lock or the PTO. Those kinds of things also contribute to the driving pleasure."
Five times Massey Ferguson
Bakker grew up with MF from an early age. His father also remained loyal to the brand throughout his life, except for two small trips. Bakker currently has five MF's in the shed; an MF 7278 Cerea combine and four tractors. Three of them have a Dyna 6 powershift transmission: an MF 6470 with 150 hp, an MF 6480 with 200 hp under the hood and an MF 7619 with 220 hp. Harry's latest addition, a young used 6616 hp MF 160 has a Dyna VT vario transmission. "I actually enjoy driving a powershift just as much," says Bakker, "that gives you a bit more power. But for finer work, a Dyna VT transmission is also enjoyable. I will mainly use the MF 6616 for the spraying and the onions."
Tough engines
In addition to ease of use and driving pleasure, the tractors also simply have to perform well. The MFs don't miss a beat there, Bakker assures. "MF's Agco Power engines are very tough power sources. They don't give up easily. In addition, MFs have a favorable weight/power ratio compared to many other brands. That's great if you are careful with your soil."
Just fine
All things considered, Bakker understands why MF is the best-selling tractor brand worldwide. "I am not married to MF. And when I look for another tractor, I look around me carefully. But I always end up with MF. The overall picture at MF is just fine."
