More green crop protection products were sold in 2019 than in the previous year. That is what industry organization Nefyto announced. This growth is mainly due to resources that may be used in organic farming.
The sale of green crop protection products increased by 2019% in 13, according to trade association Nefyto. By green products it means plant protection products that are authorized in organic cultivation, products of natural origin and products whose active ingredient is recognized as low-risk. According to Nefyto, the growth in sales is mainly due to resources that fall into the category 'may be used in the organic sector'. Sales in this group increased by 16%. Also this year, 6 products have been added to the SKAL list.
Less sale of natural resources
Plant protection products with a natural origin were sold less in 2019: -40% compared to 2018. The 5 producers with the largest sales all show a decrease in this category, ranging from 22% to 60%. According to Nefyto, it is possible that the drought of 2019 played a role in the decreased sales of green resources. Compared to 10 years ago, a growth of 25% has been achieved.
In the group with the low-risk substances, sales fell by 80% last year. A comment should be made here, because only 6 products in this category are authorized for professional use. A relatively small difference in the sales of 1 of the crop protection products results in large differences between the years. Compared to last year, 1 extra resource has been included in the calculation. Compared to 10 years ago, there is a growth of approximately 55%.
