Price rises due to limited supply of good carrots

8 January 2021 - Kimberly Bakker

There is little change in sentiment on the carrot market compared to last week, various traders say. The trade in C-carrot in particular is very difficult. As a result of the closure of catering establishments, there is almost no market or buyer for this carrot. The demand for B-carrots is slightly better, although there are rumors that the supply of good carrots is becoming increasingly scarce. Demand from abroad also remains moderate and this does not appear to be changing for the time being.

Listing takes a step up
Because there appears to be less good quality carrot available, buyers are willing to pay more. This is reflected in an increase in the DCA quotations for B-carrot and C-carrot. The average price for B-carrot this week is €15 per 100 kilos, with a price range of €12 to €18. Sometimes even €20 is paid for carrots of very good quality from the cold store. The average price for C-carrot this week is €13,50 per 100 kilos, with a price range of €12 to €15. This is equal to the price of Beurs Middenmeer.

Although last week people responded with some surprise to the B-peen listing of the Stock Exchange Emmeloord, it is now more in line with the DCA quotation and the feeling of traders is more in line with this price. For B-carrot from storage, the price range in Emmeloord is €16 to €19 per 100 kilos, a difference of €1 per 100 kilos at the top compared to the DCA quotation. Carrots are also sold for that price.
