The season for organic produce is well underway. January is largely over and with a few months to go, you can assume that parties are moving. That does not apply to onions and it is also quiet on the carrot market. Demand for potatoes remains low, while stocks are still considerable. What do the DCA Indication Prices do?
The onion market has been in a wait-and-see attitude for some time now. There is demand, but the price level offered is hardly traded. The bids that are made are reportedly sometimes around €0,50 per kilo. For really coarse that is a few cents less.
The really good parties are not yet released for that. It is also starting to get a bit exciting, says a trader. Will the expected higher levels actually be achieved in March, for example? In the lower quality segment, there is a little more to do and people buy here and there.
But for the good quality, which is what the DCA indication prices are about, the price range is €45 to €50 for >30% coarse. The coarse onions are slightly below that. The DCA Indication Price is €43 to €49. Still with little trade. It remains to be seen whether the guards will dare to hold their ground for a very long time.
Export organic carrots stiff
Last week the price level for organic carrots was between €25 and €30 in a quiet market. That's basically unchanged in a week of little trading. It's the same story as in the usual carrot. Retail supply remains at a fairly good level, but demand for exports is sluggish.
So, on balance, there is little demand for free carrots. Here too, growers will keep it up for a while and that quality is not an issue. The DCA Indication Price for organic carrots for week 4 therefore remains €25 and €30 per 100 kilograms. The mood is calm.
Enough potatoes in storage
There is still little trade and little news for potatoes. There are enough potatoes in storage, so something has to be done. There also appear to be few storage problems for potatoes, although this is always difficult to see from the outside with a potato.
In general, growers and traders are not too concerned about this right now. The DCA Indication Price for table potatoes also remains unchanged at €25 to €28 per 100 kilos. This also applies to floury and waxy potatoes 35 to 65 mm.
