The snow has caused some logistical problems for last week. On Monday, several flushers postponed deliveries due to poor road conditions. The situation quickly improved after that and the transport could be resumed. Only the planning of freights that come from further away is more precise. It is not possible to leave a sand yacht with boxes of carrot overnight because of the moderate to severe frost. During the day it is not too cold and transport is not a problem.

Peen stays close to home
Belgium and Germany are the main buyers on the Dutch market. Due to the cold weather, more carrots are also being sold in Dutch retail. Demand from Eastern Europe is still not forthcoming for the time being. Several traders report that some people are cautiously inquiring about carrots from that region, but that little extra is being bought. On average, some more carrots have been flushed this week, but the increase is not yet spectacular.

The mood in the market is fixed. The price increase that started last week is continuing and the listing has taken a step up this week. B-peen has an average of €24 per hundred kilos this week, €4 more than last week. The top of the quote is at €26 per hundred kilos and the bottom at €22 per hundred kilos. C-peen is doing an average of €20 per hundred kilos this week, but just like in recent weeks, there is little trade in this.
