On the organic markets for table potatoes, onions and carrots, the supply of new crops from the southern European regions is getting closer and closer. The preference for Dutch product means that suppliers are not expected to have to drop in price just yet. The expectation of large price peaks has since faded from the market.
The trade in organic product in this week 14 is therefore basically the same as in previous weeks. There is little free trade and the settlement of contracts is progressing nicely. What do the DCA Indicative Prices do?
Demand organic onions covered by contract
In the market for organic onions, the demand for onions is still covered by the contract trade for the time being. Some of those contracts are stretched for coverage later in the year. The mood remains quite good. Soon product will be shipped for transport from, for example, Egypt. This will of course have an impact on the market.
In the Netherlands, suppliers are not too fussy, expecting to be able to make good prices for Dutch products. Buyers seem to understand that the storage costs must be reimbursed and are reportedly willing to pay a little extra. The market for large onions is very thin. The DCA Indication Prices are quoted by the market at €40 to €43 for >30% coarse. The coarser onions are worth €38 to €41 per 100 kilos. So there is very little trade in free onions and the mood in the market is calm.
Pay a little more for organic carrots
In the market for organic carrots, deliveries are running smoothly. The stock of organic carrots now seems to be dwindling and those who want to buy a Dutch product will have to pay a little more in the future.
This is not already reflected in the prices, by the way, but it does bring a little more optimism. Compared to supply from Italy and Spain, the Dutch product is favorably priced. The DCA Indication Price for good quality (class I) organic carrots remains unchanged for the time being at €25 to €30 per 100 kilos. The mood is expectant.
Roaming along in organic table potatoes
In the market for organic table potatoes, everything is quietly moving on. Without incident, the market will continue to do so for a while at the price level of €25 to €28 per 100 kilos. This applies to floury and waxy potatoes 35 to 65 millimetres. The mood is expectant with little trade.
