Use of Keurcompost is now allowed again

12 April 2021 - Jurphaas Lugtenburg

The new requirements for Food and Feed Safety Arable Farming (VVAK) for the 2021/2022 cultivation and storage season have been established by the Arable Farm Certification Consultation. Most striking is that the use of Keurcompost is now allowed again.

On March 17, the BO Akkerbouw announced that the use of Keurcompost was no longer allowed because of the unilateral change in the standards for pollution. The use of Keurcompost Class A is now allowed again because Keurcompost has adjusted the standards for contamination so that they are in line with the requirements of VVAK. The Arable Farming Certification Consultation will also make efforts in 2021 to further improve the quality and safety of compost.

Limited changes
Compared to the 2020/2021 season, only a limited number of changes have been made. The requirements for cleaning storage facilities in connection with the expiry of the authorization for chlorpropham now only apply to storage facilities and equipment that were not cleaned in 2020/2021 in accordance with the then applicable rules. A number of requirements have been reformulated, so that the grower knows more clearly where he stands. This also allows for more unambiguous control.

All changes can be found in the grower manual 2021/2022. All documents can be found on the VVAK page from the BO Akkerbouw website. The new requirements will come into effect after a transition period of 2 months after publication. About 7.000 arable farmers participate in the VVAK. The rules are adjusted annually on the basis of signals from the sector.
