There is considerably more demand for Dutch carrots, especially from Eastern Europe, compared to recent weeks. But Germany and Belgium also remain strong on the market.

Doubts about stock
Opinions differ somewhat about the stock of (good) carrots that are still in storage. Some traders think that there is still a considerable supply of carrots. Others are of the opinion that this also contains a lot of carrots that could be of lower quality than is currently thought, causing the usable stock to be lower.

The new carrot from Spain, for example, is still too expensive for many buyers compared to good carrot from storage. Most traders therefore say that they are not yet affected by competition from new carrots. The cold weather in Southern Europe earlier this month also appears to have slowed down the growth of new carrots somewhat. If the Netherlands can supply good storage carrots, several traders expect that most buyers will not switch to new carrots in the near future. If the quality deteriorates, the new harvest will be switched to sooner.

Price remains stable
The extra demand for carrots has not yet caused the price to rise. The DCA quotation for B-carrot remains the same as last week at €22,50 per 100 kg. The average price range is between €21 and €24 per 100 kilos. C-peen also records a price equal to last week at €22 per 100 kilos.
