The summer cereals are developing well, as are the weeds. These are best controlled around the end of tillering of the grain. This is usually in the first 2 weeks of May. With the new product Pixxaro, there are new possibilities for weed control in summer cereals.
pixxaro has recently been approved and is now also available. Pixxaro is a combination of 2 growth substances: Starane Top and Arylex. The Starane provides the effect against polynomials, black nightshade, potato storage, etc. Arylex provides an effect against purple dead nettle, fowl bite, goosefoot, cranesbill, hemp nettle, dog parsley, pigeon chervil, etc. The advice is to combine Pixxaro with Tapir. This provides a broad spectrum and strong mix against weeds in summer grain. Melganzevoet is also combated by this mix.
Windhalm and darkness
Early sowing of the summer grain can also germinate young weed grasses such as windhalm and dusk. In spring wheat it is possible to use a mix of Pixxaro with Capri Twin (Note: only in spring wheat, not in spring barley or oats!).
potato storage
In summer grain, we usually try to clean up the potato storage with a one-off spraying. This does require good timing. Potatoes that have just emerged grow from tuber reserves and are then difficult to control. Potatoes higher than 20 cm now have a strong root system and are also difficult to control. In the intervening period (storage is 10 to 20 cm high), potato storage can be controlled quite well with one application. There may be differences between potato varieties. Therefore, a second spraying may sometimes be necessary.
