The east of the Netherlands was ravaged by heavy rain on Thursday. The rain showers were accompanied by thunder and hail, locally more than 50 millimeters of precipitation fell. Plots are empty and the lot locks overflowed.
The local downpours brought the farm work to a standstill for the umpteenth time this year. There is also a lot of damage again, such as plants that have been washed away and places that have been under water for a long time. In the vicinity of Rolde, next to Assen, more than 60 millimeters fell locally, while 3 kilometers away there was less than 10 millimeters in the rain gauge. An enormous amount of water also fell in the area around the Veluwe.
Some growers had not foreseen the heavy showers coming and were surprised. They were planting the last plots of potatoes when a cloudburst struck.
Heavy showers forecast again
The Crop and Roughage Tour in this area were spared. The Crop Tour plot in Wezup (Drenthe) received 11 millimeters yesterday afternoon. The Roughage Tour plot in Hengelo (Gelderland) also received 18 millimeters yesterday. The question is how the thunderstorms will develop this weekend. Locally heavy rain and thunderstorms are again expected for Saturday.
