Beet allocation percentage higher next year

5 August 2021 - Jurphaas Lugtenburg

Sugar beet processor Cosun is increasing the allocation percentage for the 2022 cultivation year to 105%. That is 3% higher than this year but equal to 2020.

Cosun argues that the reason for the increase in the allotment percentage is that the sugar stock and the expected sugar yield this year are lower than estimated in advance, and that the market is developing positively. With the increase, the company expects to produce more than 2022 million tons of sugar in the 2023/1,2 season. Cosun growers will be informed about the individual allocation around 17 August. This is done on the basis of the number of LLBs that the grower has registered. From that moment on it is also possible to order beet seed with an early order discount.

Start beet campaign
The beet campaign will start on Monday 13 September this year. In the second week of August, growers will receive the final campaign layout in the member portal. With the current revenue forecast, Cosun expects the campaign to last 120 days this year. Beet growers can order Toptex covering material up to and including 31 August. Toptex protects the beet heap against precipitation and thus helps to limit storage losses.
