Campaign to encourage good use of PPPs

10 September 2021 - Jurphaas Lugtenburg - 3 comments

When using plant protection products (PPP), it is important that the product gets on the crop and not in the environment. The sector has already taken many measures in this regard. In the Emission Reduction Sprint campaign, the good examples of measures taken by arable farmers, contractors and consultants are put in the spotlights.

The campaign was announced yesterday (Thursday 9 September) by BO Akkerbouw chairman Dirk de Lugt at the opening of the National theme day 2021 Drift reducing and innovative spraying techniques. On the website www.emissionsreductionsprint.nu There will be videos and vlogs from farmers, advisers and contractors in which they show what measures they have taken to prevent emissions. Teun de Jong (NAV), Leendert Jan Onnes (NAJK) and Jaap van Wenum (LTO) kicked off the campaign with vlogs about the measures they have taken at their own company.

Good example is good to follow
Effective application of PPPs is not only important for the grower from a financial perspective. According to the initiators of the campaign, LTO Nederland department of arable farming and open field vegetables, BO-Akkerbouw and Deltaplan Agrarisch Waterbeheer, preventing unwanted spread is important in order to maintain a workable and broad package of resources.

Major steps have already been taken in recent years to prevent emissions, but there remains a need to achieve the water quality targets, limit nuisance for local residents and relieve the environment. In addition to the initiators, Nefyto, Agrodis, KAVB and Fedecom have also pledged their support. The aim of the campaign is to give good practice examples a platform and thereby stimulate their wider application.
