The sound from the trade is unambiguous: little or nothing is happening. There is plenty on offer of good carrots directly from the field, but the buyers are not queuing up. A situation that has been going on for weeks, putting pressure on prices right from the start of the season. No disaster is also a disaster, appears to be in early carrots this year.

Apple and an egg
The carrot that is now traded mainly has overseas destinations such as Israel and Africa. "This concerns carrots from the top of the market for which a somewhat reasonable price is still being paid. Lesser quality is sold for an apple and an egg", a trader says. According to him, it seems that Mauritania will come on the market from next week. "That will cause a little more excitement, but not directly lead to higher prices. There is still plenty of early carrots."

Other traders also confirm that the mood in sales is very tame. It's a tough market. In addition to overseas export, some carrots go to neighboring countries, but in very small numbers. "We hope for better times," said a trader.

Prices hardly changed
Carrot prices remain stable this week at around the same level as last week. The DCA quotation for B carrots is €7,50 per 100 kilos. The bottom of the quotation is at €6 per 100 kilos. The DCA quotation for C-peen drops €1 compared to last week to €6 per 100 kilos.
