The market for organic carrots, onion and table potato is relatively quiet. The carrot is currently being harvested and has a good yield of good quality. The onions and table potatoes are behind the shelves. There is little demand here, but also no pressure from growers to sell.
What does the current state of the organic markets mean for the DCA Indication Prices for this week 40 of 2021?
Organic carrot
There is plenty of harvesting in organic carrots. The carrot seems to be of good quality, nice and smooth and the yields are also very good. An exception is the carrot that was sown late in the spring. This happened after heavy rainfall. The quality, but also the yield, is disappointing compared to the other carrots. Pressing the harvest puts some pressure on prices. Prices around €15 to €16 are hardly traded. That is also the DCA Indication Price for this week, which is on average one euro lower than last week.
Organic onions
Now that most of the onions are behind the shelves, it is slowly becoming clear how large the stocks are in the Netherlands. All in all, the picture is that the yields of organic onions are not great. Then you can expect higher prices in the long run, but buyers are not shrinking for the time being. They are looking at how everything will turn out in the second half of the season. And whether they will indeed have to pay higher prices for scarce product of good quality by then.
The onion market is calm now, but tends towards slightly higher DCA Indication prices. For varying qualities, between €35 and €42 is mentioned. For coarse class II, between €38 and €40 is then noted. For finer class II lots, the price range is €36 to €39.
Organic table potatoes
'Almost no news' is the reaction from the market for organic table potatoes. That is normal for this time of year. Packers have bought enough ex-country and are able to cope with demand. In any case, there is little reason to buy from storage. The range is about €60 per 100 kilos for both crumbly and firm cooking. Customers are not willing to pay this and go up to fifty euros. The market gives a DCA Indication Price for this week of €50 to €60 per 100 kilos. This is unchanged from last week. A lot of spectacle is not expected in the coming week either.
