It continues to be difficult on the carrot market. There is plenty of carrot on offer, but sales are insufficient. And quite a bit of clearing has to be done before some air is released on the market again.
Small batches of carrots continue to become available that just don't fit in the refrigerator and have to go immediately. In addition, there are also complete plots where the carrot is in the ground and for which there is no buyer. As a result, (too) much carrot remains hanging above the market, as has actually been the case since shortly after the start of the season.
Too good carrot?
The quality of the carrot also works to a certain disadvantage. Very little is washed out, especially compared to recent years. Many net kilos remain of the gross kilos. And the quality of the carrots that are still stuck in the field remains good in the current weather conditions, perhaps even better than in the refrigerator. "It's harsh to say, but a severe frost period within four to six weeks would be the best deal," said one of the traders.
No major shifts
For the DCA Quotation B carrot, the average quotation has remained the same at €6 per 100 kilos. The range has become slightly wider, with €4 per 100 kilos for good carrots but immediately gone and up to €8 per 100 kilos for very good carrots for storage. The DCA Quotation C-carrot has dropped by €0,50 per 100 kilos to €5,50 per 100 kilos.
