The organic potato market is stabilizing. Prices are relatively good and some of the growers now want to take advantage of this. It is relatively quiet on the organic onion market. Growers do offer, but certainly the farmers with good onions in the cell are not in a hurry to sell. The organic carrot trade is still difficult. Due to a large offer, the search for buyers is possible. Will that change this season?
The mood on the carrot market remains moderate. Too much supply relative to demand puts pressure on prices. That doesn't seem likely to change in the short term, but in the longer term there is hope, according to an insider. A relatively large number of tons have been harvested and the quality is good on average. It is therefore possible that rinsers continue to run on Northwestern European carrots for a long time. Certainly also because transport costs have risen sharply, partly due to the high gas oil prices. There is a good chance that Dutch organic carrots will be able to compete with carrots from Spain for a long time to come. The DCA Indication Price remains the same at €15 to €16 per 100 kilos.
Onion market in balance
Supply and demand on the onion market are fairly balanced. Customers are now accustomed to the current prices and remain committed to the market. The quality of some batches of onions leaves something to be desired, but due to the tight supply, there is still a market for them, albeit at lower prices. Growers with good onions in the shed do offer, but most are in no rush to sell. The DCA Indication Price for the fine grade is €47 to €50 per 100 kilos. For the large onions, the indication price is €50 to €53 per 100 kilos.
The offer of potatoes is carefully released
The provisional ceiling of potato prices has been reached, according to various traders. January is generally not the best month for trading. Growers are therefore faced with the choice of whether to sell or keep in the coming weeks before the holidays and wait and only offer again at the end of January. At the current relatively high prices, some of the farmers choose to sell now. Prices stabilize when supply is released. The DCA Indication Price will therefore remain the same as last week at €62 to €68 per 100 kilos.
