Prices for agricultural products in Germany were on average 16,3% higher in October compared to last year in that month. Compared to September, prices have increased by an average of 2,8%. Vegetable products in particular have risen sharply in price, reports the German statistical office Destatis.
Prices for vegetable products rose by 24,4% in October, compared to the same month a year earlier. Grain and rapeseed have become 36,9% and 62% more expensive respectively. The increase in the rapeseed price in particular is worth mentioning by the statistics bureau Destatis. This is the largest price increase since July 2008. The statistical office cites the worldwide shrinking supply as demand increases, including for biofuels.
The price of ware potatoes has also risen, namely by 43,5% compared to October 2020. This is the largest price increase since August 2019 and is mainly due to disappointing hectare yields. With regard to the rising price, it should be noted that prices fell sharply in the period September 2019 to July 2021 compared to the same month a year earlier.
Livestock prices fluctuating
Prices in the livestock sector rose by 10,8% in October compared to October last year. Here it is mainly the milk price, which has risen by 14,2%, that is leading the way. The yields for finishers decreased by 2,9% in October compared to the same month a year earlier. The price decline is mainly due to lower demand in trade and exports due to a general decline in pork consumption.
An outlier in a positive sense is the cattle prices. They have increased by 24,7%. The reason for this is a sharp decline in supply, while demand has remained the same.
