In the organic markets for onions and carrots, the mood remains fairly stable. For potatoes, there is still little or no action and everyone seems to be sufficiently 'covered' for the time being. What does this mean for this week's DCA Indication Prices?
The pace does not seem to be really picking up yet in the organic markets for (free) onions, carrots and table potatoes. Markets have so far been insufficiently dynamic for buyers to stock up on additional inventory to meet demand.
Demand does not allow higher price organic onion
The market for organic onions is characterized as difficult. Prices hold and a lot of mood is made to justify a plus of a few cents. In practice, however, this does not seem to be the case. The question does not allow this. For example, Germany is still not in the market. In addition, some growers also indicate that they want to get rid of their onions. It is also mentioned that there is an offer of organic onions from Poland.
All in all, there is little reason to expect very crazy things to happen in the price trend. There is quite a lot of work to be done on the onions and the trade is only buying sparsely. But the season is still long, so there is plenty of time to take advantage of changed circumstances. The DCA Indication Prices are at a level of €52 and €56 for lots from fine/medium growers and delivered within three weeks. The top only applies to very beautiful parties. More or less the same applies to coarser onions, although there is little trade in them.
Carrot market stiff, but still higher prices
The market for organic carrots is becoming increasingly difficult. As time goes on, more and more quality issues, or blemishes, appear. In Germany - where much more is paid for German products - stocks are quite large. Trade there runs at about €35 to €42 per 100 kilos. There are not many opportunities there for Dutch organic carrots. Nevertheless, there is still more money to be made in the current market for good Dutch quality, according to insiders. The DCA Indication Price for organic carrots is therefore €28 to €32 per 100 kilos this week. That is on average about €2 more than last week.
Sufficient stock of table potatoes
The market for organic table potatoes is still a bit reserved and there is little trade. There seems to be sufficient supply in traditional export countries. And in the Netherlands there still seems to be sufficient domestic product available, but for a longer season there might be some pressure on that. The prices for very nice batches that do not go wrong are about €68 to €70 per 100 kilos.
However, for batches with quality problems, prices are from €60 per 100 kilos. In the meantime, it also only takes about five weeks before the first potatoes from Egypt arrive. It is always a bit of a wait and see what that does to the market, but here too the season is still long. On average, the DCA Indication Price for both waxy and floury potatoes is €60 to €69 per 100 kilos
