Bayer expects supply problems with herbicides containing the active ingredient glyphosate. This mainly concerns the well-known RoundUp. One of the ingredients of glyphosate is not available and that affects production. The crop protection company announced this today (February 14).
Bayer reports that it must invoke the force major clause in their supply contracts. Due to technical problems at an ingredient supplier - the name is not mentioned - the production and supply of glyphosate may cause problems this spring.
Three months short
In a response to Reuters news agency: says A spokesperson said it can't say anything about possible liver problems yet, but the company is taking it into account. Bayer expects the supplier to restart production within three months. This does mean that (for the Netherlands) there may be less product available this spring.
The shortage of a particular ingredient affects RoundUp products such as Ultimate. It is currently unknown whether other producers of glyphosate-related herbicides are also affected. Farmers do, however, expect a sharp rise in cost prices this season. Prices have doubled – based on growers' voices. This means that for a standard glyphosate product, not €4 but €8 per liter is paid and for the 'more luxurious' RoundUp Ultimate not €7 but €14 per liter.
Delivery security
Higher price is one thing, but delivery security is another. Let arable farmers on Boerenbusiness know that it is no longer always possible to order glyphosate products now.
