Ask for carrot but won't put on

The carrot trade remains difficult. The big problem is that the demand just won't get going. "The regular work continues, but we don't get tired otherwise," said an insider. Germany and Eastern Europe in particular are failing due to a wide range on the local market.

The saying 'no disaster is a disaster' also seems to apply to the carrot market this season. After a number of years with disappointing returns on average, the cards have been shuffled very differently this season. Yields are generally good and due to the absence of a significant period of frost, carrots have hardly died prematurely. In southern Germany, carrots are still delivered ex country even now. In combination with full cold stores, according to insiders, this creates an unhealthy situation on the market.

little trade
Demand from Eastern Europe - which Dutch rinsers have to rely on for a large part during this period - is not getting off to a good start due to a large supply of local carrots. To get the trade going, the price is an important knob that can be turned in the current market. Only there is now the stretch. The demand for carrots can be met to a large extent by traders and rinsers with their own stocks. On the other hand, growers with good carrots are also not very keen to offer carrots at current prices. Most of the costs have now been incurred and giving away is always possible, seems to be the prevailing thought among some of the growers. There is therefore little trade on the free market. Growers would like to say goodbye to parties that are declining, but for that they have to look for a buyer.

The DCA quotation for B carrot remains the same as last week at €6 to €12 per 100 kilos. The bottom of the quotation is formed by parties that are on the edge of class l. The DCA quotation for C-peen is also unchanged and remains at €6 to €10 per 100 kilos. For both the B carrot and C carrot, there is little trade due to limited demand.
