Quality is and remains a tricky issue in the trade in organic onions. "Many parties do have a blemish," reports a trader. Beautiful parties are few and far between, but they can still be found. However, the demand for onions is on the moderate side. Trade is going quite well through the fixed channels. All that is missing is a destination that stands out and thus positively influences the tone of the market. The DCA Indication price for both coarse and fine onions this week amounts to €50 to €55 per 100 kilos. The top thus drops by €1.

It is also the quality of the carrot that sets the mood on the market. A lot of carrots have been harvested and there is a large stock, but the quality of various lots is starting to decline. It is difficult to find a destination for the lesser carrot. This is not only the case in the Netherlands, but also in Germany. In the longer term, this may offer opportunities for growers with good carrots in the refrigerator. There may well be gaps later this season. This is not noticeable in the daily prices. The DCA Indication Price remains at €20 to €24 per 100 kilos.

Movement in the potato market
There is some excitement in the market for organic potatoes. That just doesn't lead to much trade. It is mainly a lot of informing and looking but not buying. Early potatoes from Egypt and Israel are now on the market, but volumes are small and potatoes from storage remain in demand. Tare percentages are on the high side and, according to insiders, it is advisable for growers to make good agreements about this. Only looking at the highest bidder, who tares strictly, can sometimes turn out to be disadvantageous after delivery. The DCA Indication Price remains the same as last week at €60 to €65 per 100 kilos.
