Sanctions do not hit HAK with Russian owner

3 March 2022 - Klaas van der Horst

Although vegetable company HAK has a Russian owner, the sanctions and other restrictions have no impact at the moment. The company will let you know if requested. HAK came in June 2021 wholly owned by the KDV Group, because NPM Capital sold its share.

The KDV Group is based in Tomsk, in the Siberian part of Russia. According to the announcement, the group was an international food producer and active in the entire food chain, from cultivation, raw materials processing and production to sales and distribution.

Growing up with chocolate and cookies
Most points of sale are located in Eastern Europe, Russia and China. The group has its own agricultural land, factories and a very close-knit distribution network. Over the past 25 years, KDV has grown in food products, especially chocolate, biscuits and snacks. The group currently has branches in thirteen countries and sells products in 35 countries. Last year, KDV employed more than 20.000 people.

Owner Denis Shtengelov is also born Russian, but has lived in Australia for twelve years, where he is a well-known billionaire. HAK reports that he has indicated from the first meeting that he has no political ties with Russia.

Fully autonomous
HAK also reports that it is financially and operationally fully autonomous. In terms of sales, the focus is on the Benelux and Germany. "Almost all our vegetables have been grown and processed locally within a radius of 125 kilometers to our factory in Giessen (Brabant) for seventy years," says Hak. There are no products from Russia.
