McCain puts a stop to new factory in Russia

11 March 2022 - Wouter Baan - 2 comments

McCain has announced that it will definitively stop construction of a new factory in Russia, after it was previously announced that construction plans had been halted.

In 2020 McCain set foot in Russia by making plans to build a new factory in the Tula Oblast sub-region, not far from Ukraine and Belarus. The French fries company has been planning to enter the Russian market for years. Because of the Russian ambitions to become self-sufficient, it was very interesting to be present there as a market leader, or so the thought.

In the meantime, the Canadian French fries producer had started building a new factory. Days after the war, those plans were halted and it has now been announced that the company is permanently withdrawing from Russia. The factory is not being completed.

John Deere keeps branches open
Agricultural machine builder John Deere John is less rigorous. The company has announced that it will suspend exports to Russia from North America and Europe, but will keep dozens of branches open in the country itself.
