The trade in organic potatoes, onions and carrots is still going smoothly. There is demand, but it is all not over, report insiders. That makes processors and traders cautious when buying.
Organic products are seen by many consumers as a luxury product. This means that it is one of the first things to be cut. The sector is now dealing with this, according to insiders. Energy prices, among other things, have risen sharply. In addition, consumers can go on holiday and eat out again after two years. Organic foods are therefore lower on the priority list.
little trade
There is little trade in organic potatoes. According to buyers, there is enough supply of new potatoes from the Mediterranean area or cheaper potatoes from France. This makes it difficult for sorters to intervene with Dutch potatoes. The DCA Indication Price is €57 to €61 per 100 kilos, for both waxy and floury potatoes.
There is also little demand on the market for organic onions. The stock of good free onions at growers is not large, but if there is little demand, you will soon have too much. The demand for red onions is picking up. Germany in particular is copper. There is no interest in yellow onions. It is pushing and pulling to get the trade done. The DCA Indication Price is €44 to €49 per 100 kilos. It is not easy for growers to actually find a buyer.
The carrot market is stable. There is interest in good parties, but rinsers certainly do not pay the highest price. Some carrots are now coming from Spain, but this product is - partly due to high transport costs - considerably more expensive than Dutch carrots. The DCA Indication Price is €18 to €22 per 100 kilos.
