There is little action on the market for organic potatoes, onions and carrots. Little by little trading is being done, but it is not going well. The big question is missing and that depresses the mood.
A good relationship between grower and buyer is, according to insiders, extra important at the moment. The market is relatively slow and growers are looking for buyers. "Trade is for an important part also giving each other something", reports a trader. "Growers who always want to get the most out of their can now get the lid on the nose."
Onion market under pressure
There is little trade in organic onions. This is partly because growers have already sold their product or have recorded it in another way. If there is a hole, additional purchases are made. But not beyond that. With prices under pressure, there is no confidence to hold more inventory than necessary. The DCA Indication Price this week amounts to €43 to €48 per 100 kilos for both coarse and fine grades.
In organic potatoes, the mood is slightly better. But here too people are not overflowing with enthusiasm. According to sources, the pressure of organic potatoes from imports is somewhat exaggerated by buyers. The supply of conventional potatoes in the supermarket may help the organic market more. The consumer can only spend the money once and with the rising cost of living, the cheaper common potato is tempting. The DCA Indication Price is now again taking a small step back, to €55 to €60 per 100 kilos.
There are few shifts in the carrot market. There is interest in the good carrot, provided the price is right. The lesser carrot is almost impossible to get rid of. The DCA Indication Price remains the same as last week at €18 to €22 per 100 kilos.
