The mood on the organic market for potatoes, onions and carrots is a bit low. The prices remain the same, but according to insiders it is quite an art to find a buyer at the moment. What effect does that have on prices?
There is little demand for organic onions. As far as the trade is looking for onions, it is mainly the coarser batches that are requested. They are just almost not there. The quality of the onions on offer is quite variable according to traders. This sometimes leads to a discussion between grower and buyer about taring. The DCA Indication Price this week amounts to €38 to €45 per 100 kilos for the fine batches and €42 to €46 per 100 kilos.

The trade in organic-free potatoes is calm. Agreements have been made about many free potatoes and there are no gaps due to, for example, an increasing demand or setbacks in the supply from abroad. At the same time, processors with inventory have no interest in lowering the price. The DCA Indication Price therefore remains unchanged from last week at €57 to €61 per 100 kilos. That is paid for good potatoes of a popular variety such as Agria, although it is a matter of looking for a buyer. For a batch of lesser potatoes of a less demanded variety, €10 to €15 less is quickly paid.
The trade in organic carrots is coming to an end. Almost all buyers have switched to new carrots from Southern Europe. Due to the higher temperatures, the cooling systems in the Netherlands run for more hours and you notice that the carrot wears out quickly. As a result, the supply of good carrots from storage dries up quickly. The DCA Indication Price this week amounts to €16 to €20 per 100 kilos. It should be noted that there is hardly any trade in old carrots.
