It is still not going very smoothly on the carrot market. The demand for carrots is insufficient to eliminate the large supply. There are also the necessary moderate to bad carrots hanging above the market. That doesn't help the mood at all.
The demand for carrots is relatively good for this time of year. Demand continues to persist, especially from Eastern Europe. That is sometimes different around this time when there is plenty of carrot supply from Southern Europe. The price plays an important role according to insiders. Everything has to be sharp, but then we also have something to do, say several flushers. Things are a lot calmer for processors who don't go along with this. However, rinsers are keen on quality. If you now supply mediocre carrots, you will have killed the fragile demand that exists.
Market further under pressure
The DCA Listing B-Peen this week amounts to €5 per 100 kilos. The price ranges from €2 to €8 per 100 kilos, with little trade being done at the top end of the quotation. Growers would like to get rid of the carrots and with limited demand this puts further pressure on prices. The carrot trade is therefore a real buyers' market where buyers dictate prices.
