The new carrot season is approaching, but the old carrot has not yet been eliminated. That puts a lot of pressure on the market. A little bit of luck, as far as you can speak of that, is that the demand for old carrots is still fairly stable.
The mood on the market is depressed among most traders and flushers. Although there remains a demand for carrots from storage, things do not run smoothly. Many flushers still have stock and try to get rid of it as much as possible. Additional carrots are purchased, but their own carrots remain the main part of what they currently produce. "For the growers who are selling now and for our own stock, a lot of money is needed at the moment," said a grower. "But luckily we can still get rid of the carrot. If it has to be fed, you are lucky if it is picked up for free."
No level to raise
Carrot prices are shooting in all directions. Most growers would like to get rid of the carrot and quickly settle for an offer. On the other hand, every now and then there is a rinser who has miscalculated with quality. They are willing to give a little more for very good carrots. These factors, together with a limited number of transactions, make it difficult to provide an accurate reflection of the market. The DCA quotation for B-carrot remains the same as last week at €2 to €7 per 100 kilos, with several outliers both up and down.
