The new Dutch carrot is already on the market, while various rinsers are still running on carrots from the cooling. This creates tension in the market and is anything but favorable for the negotiating position of the growers.
The carrot trade continues to be difficult. Drainers have a choice of carrots and it is up to the grower to like it or not. The demand for carrots from the old harvest from Eastern Europe remains reasonable due to the decent quality and the large price difference with the new harvest. Nevertheless, a lot of carrot (even good ones) disappears into animal feed. "You just need to add money for transport and washing if you are a bit unlucky," reports a trader. Several rinsers have stopped, but those that are still running are doing a decent job.
A realistic representation of carrot prices remains difficult to give. It takes a bit of luck to find a buyer. The DCA quotation for B-carrot remains the same as last week at €2 to €7 per 100 kilos. A large portion of the transactions are at the lower end of the quotation. Due to the limited number of transactions, this is the last DCA quotation for this carrot season.
