Bos succeeds De Lugt as chairman of Cosun

1 September 2022 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 2 comments

Arwin Bos will be the new chairman of the board of directors of the Cosun cooperative. The arable farmer from Nieuw-Vennep will succeed Dirk de Lugt in the middle of next year. Bos is already vice-chairman of the cooperative, owner of the Royal Cosun food group of the same name. These include Cosun Beet Company, Aviko, Duynie, Sensus, SVZ and recently Cosun Protein.

Cosun announced this this morning. The members' council of the cooperative officially elected Arwin Bos as chairman at a meeting yesterday (August 31). This offers Bos ample time to familiarize himself with his new position. The formal transfer will take place in the annual meeting of 2023, Cosun reports.

Bos has tried and tested Cosun's fortunes, as he has been a member of the board of directors since 2016. Arwin Bos and his family manage the arable farm Bos Akkerbouw in the Haarlemmermeer, where they farm on two farms. Since 2013 he has also been active as The Potato Farmer, with which customers in the wholesale and catering sectors, among others, are directly supplied with chips and table potatoes. Bos has not always been a full-time arable farmer, but has also worked as a lawyer for almost eight years at a law firm in Amsterdam. His portfolio includes administrative law and environmental and spatial planning law.

Dirk de Lugt announced last spring in 2023 to resign as chairman. His maximum statutory term has then been reached.

I wish Mr Bos every success in keeping this cooperative afloat.
It will be quite a challenge, with everything going on.

Fortunately, a new CEO was recently appointed, and with that a lot of rubble can first be cleared financially, including the debacle at Duynie (35 million and still counting).
The future of Aviko and the conflicting business model they use will also generate a lot of discussion for the members of Cosun.
Apart from the daily problems such as sugar, oversold sugar, and the purchase of gas (or is it crude oil?)
