Growers are taking the helm at the carrot market

The hectare yields of early carrots are quite disappointing here and there. The supply of carrots that can be processed immediately is therefore on the meager side. That helps the mood among the growers.

The tight supply gives growers confidence in the carrot market. Plots are already being cleared left and right that have not yet grown and for which the harvest was actually planned later. The market therefore remains clean, which further strengthens the growers' confidence in the market. That is also possible after last season, according to various traders. Washers who work for supermarkets generally do a good job, but exports to Africa are very quiet. The Dutch carrot is simply too expensive for those destinations at the moment.

The high costs of storing the carrots also play a role in the choices growers make. A price of €60 or €65 per box plus a possible energy surcharge is not at all unusual. Can and do you want to incur those costs as a grower? If frost does not arrive early, it could be a very long period.

The DCA quotation for B-carrot remains the same as last week at an average of €29 per 100 kilos. The price band has been stretched a bit further and runs from €27 to €31. Most of the trade is done at approximately €28 per 100 kilos. A flusher that is stuck or for a part that just fits well is paid more. The DCA quotation for C-carrot also remains the same as last week at an average of €21 per 100 kilos.
