The trade in organic potatoes, onions and carrots is faltering a bit. The mood is moderately positive, but it's not really busy yet. Both traders and growers are currently cautious in what they are doing.
The rain has come too late for growth, but it is right on time for harvesting. Many regions have had enough rain to soften the crust and clods. "Fortunately, we didn't have any downpours that flooded the place," said a trader. "These have been nice booties that you can use."
There is little trade in onions. Growers who wanted or had to deliver from land have had the opportunity and taken it. A relatively large part of the onions has already gone into the shed. Some farmers are still unsure what to do with their last onions. Ex-land prices are now nice, but not great. Before driving in, the farmers struggle with the high energy prices for storing the onions. Will that be paid later in the season? The demand for sorted onions is calm, according to traders. The regular work continues but there are no destinations that really attract it. The DCA Indication Price remains at €30 to €35 per 100 kilos for all grades.
Ask for carrot
The demand for carrots for fast delivery remains good. The yields of the early carrots are not easy and the later varieties still need to grow a few tons more. The working stocks do not last for some rinsers. The DCA Indication Price is €38 to €43 per 100 kilos. The trade in organic potatoes does not want to get off to a good start. Many sorters have already recorded the potatoes that are currently being processed and are hardly on the market to recover. The DCA Indication Price remains the same as last week at €40 to €45 per 100 kilos. It should be clear, however, that the limited trade makes it difficult to provide a good reflection of the market.
