The kilos are not yet down on the later varieties, but with the rain in recent weeks, this will go a long way in the coming weeks. It may not be a real winner, but an above-average yield is certainly in the offing. There are also growers who do not look at the yield per kilo, but at the yield per hectare. Now the price is reasonable and if the bottom line is right, why wait, those growers think.

Cooling
The high costs of storage play an especially important role in the choices that growers and rinsers make this season. The price of a box in the refrigerator has roughly doubled compared to two years ago. That makes the risk of putting the carrot into the refrigerator a lot greater. Every year you have a batch that goes wrong during the storage season. Say you spend €65 per box on cooling costs this season, then you can no longer spread one batch over the rest.

The DCA quotation for B-carrot is cautiously under some pressure and amounts to €27,50 per 100 kilos. The bottom of the quote remains the same, while the top has lost slightly. The DCA listing for C-carrot has taken a step up this week. The average price now amounts to €23,50 per 100 kilos.
