Growers are in no hurry to sell and traders do not have to go to the market to buy organic potatoes, onions and carrots. In a nutshell, that is how the organic market can be typified at the moment.
Carrots find their way on the market fairly easily. According to a trader, it is fairly easy to find a buyer for what becomes available. A stable demand from Germany in particular ensures a solid base in the market. The DCA Indication Price remains the same as last week at €48 to €52 per 100 kilos.
Limited question
The demand for onions is limited. The retail customers are not very keen on onions and that is what the organic onions must rely on. This was concealed until December by a good export demand for conventional onions, in which some organic onions were also sold. The DCA Indicative price for organic onions has taken a step back from last week to €42 to €48 per 100 kilos for both the coarse and finer grades, but with the comment that there is little trade.
There is also little trade in organic potatoes. The mild weather of the last few weeks has certainly not been favorable for the dormancy of the potatoes. A large part of the supply that is now coming onto the market consists of potatoes with loose germs. These are absorbed by processors, but at an appropriate (low) price. For good potatoes, the DCA Indication Price is €33 to €38 per 100 kilos.
