It is certainly not a storm on the carrot market. Growers with good carrots are stuck in the saddle and flushers are unable or unwilling to do so yet. That makes it very quiet in the trade for direct delivery.
Dutch carrots are too expensive on the European market and other suppliers are undercutting our prices, is a frequently heard comment among traders and growers. Dutch washers are dependent on exports for a significant part of their work. Due to moderate exports, it is very quiet at many flushers.
Quiet
If it is quiet at flushers, it will almost automatically be quiet in the farmer's trade as well. Several growers with good carrots in the shed stick to €200 per box. Due to the large differences in quality and what is flushed out of a box, the price per box actually says nothing about the bottom line price per kilo. Due to the large differences in quality, there is also a very wide price range at which business is done. Moderate lots in class II are around or just under €20 per 100 kilos, while good lots are paid €30.
The DCA Quotation for class I b-carrot has remained the same this week at €25 to €30 per 100 kilos. For the c-carrot, the DCA quotation is €28 to €32 per 100 kilos. There are not many large carrots and that is why the price remains high. What also plays a role is that less b-carrot is pooled, which also means that less coarse carrot becomes available.
