Cosun wants accelerated growth in biobased solutions

7 April 2023 - Eric de Lijster

Cosun wants to grow at a faster pace in the development and production of biobased solutions. The cooperative food group has set up the new Cosun Biobased business unit for this purpose. Cosun announced on Thursday 6 April that Geert-Jan Beijering will be appointed director of this division as of 1 July.

Beijering is currently still Global product director at Nouryon and previously held various management positions at AkzoNobel. Nouryon, which develops and sells ingredients and applications for paper, pharmaceuticals, personal care and building materials, among others, was spun off from AkzoNobel in 2018. Cosun has the ambition to grow rapidly in biobased solutions. Cosun Biobased is already active in Home Care and Personal Care and wants to further accelerate this growth. Other plant-based opportunities will also be explored, the company reports in a statement

The ingredients of these products are developed from, among other things, residual flows of sugar beet (photo). Beijing's knowledge and network in these markets should contribute to this accelerated growth. In its Unlock 25 strategy presented last year, Cosun focuses on profitable growth in vegetable proteins, dietary fibers and biobased raw materials.
