Price holds up in a quiet organic market

Sales of organic onions have remained virtually the same as in recent weeks. Regular work continues and supply and demand appear to be well balanced, with the comment that current stocks are lower than normal for this time. Given the demand and current stocks, growers are confident that the market will soon be able to take another step. However, it should not be forgotten that the current sales price is already at a high level and has been supported and increased during the storage season by the price of conventional onions. In addition, the storage season is also coming to an end, which means that the onions have to leave the shed at some point.

Many parties were committed to term earlier in the storage season, which means that there are few transactions at the moment. This makes it more difficult to arrive at an indicative price. The DCA Indication Price remains the same and amounts to an average of €82 per 100 kilos for both fine and coarse size grading.

Tough potato market
Demand on the organic potato market remains calm and there are few signs that things will change significantly in the short term. The supply is high compared to the demand and additional demand must come from abroad if the price is to really increase. However, the current potato market provides a solid price base. The price differences are also large between certain varieties, with a difference of €7 to €8 per 100 kilos.

Some growers are in no hurry to sell their lots, despite the very difficult market. They want to see a four as the first digit of the sales price again. Business has now also been done with a price that starts with a four, but these are very good lots with a popular breed. The DCA Indication Price increases by €1 at the top and therefore amounts to €33 to €40 per 100 kilos.
